Did You Know?

For two months in 2020, the faces of Black citizens killed by police were projected on a monument to Confederate General Robert E. Lee.

Description

This projection, part of a protest in Richmond in 2020, shows the face of Michael Brown, an unarmed Black eighteen year old who was shot and killed by Darren Wilson, a white police officer, in Ferguson, Missouri, on August 9, 2014. That November, a grand jury declined to indict the officer. The following March, the Justice Department cited Ferguson for constitutional violations and recommended that the city overhaul its criminal justice system.
