Did You Know?

These trees beautify the neighborhood but also suggest an antisocial impulse.

Description

This sculptural, dense row of bushes hides and protects a home, reflecting the urge to protect private property from outsiders. The suburban fences and hedges shot by Dieter Daemen in Europe during the European refugee crisis demonstrate how deeply the desire to create barriers and keep people at a distance is embedded in Western societies.
