Did You Know?

The peacock is a symbol with different meanings in different cultures, including beauty, vanity, self-esteem, watchfulness, and eternal life.

Description

In the photographs of Gabriele Viertel, poet Elly de Waard found a sexuality and eroticism that brought out an unknown side of her own writing. De Waard felt that when violence against women seems omnipresent in the news and the world, her poems and Viertel’s images could provide an antidote—expressions of beauty, tenderness, love, and pleasant glamour.
