Did You Know?
Now a museum, the Jeu de Paume in Paris was built in 1861 as an indoor court for a precursor of tennis.Description
Joel Meyerowitz here juxtaposes two images of couples that echo one another: one is the painting A Loge at the Italiens by Eva Gonzalès, which hangs in the museum, and the other is the view through the museum window onto a real-life couple. It is a witty pairing, contrasting the 19th and 20th century, an artist’s conception with reality, and painting with photography.- ?-2021Michael Mattis and Judith Hochberg, Scarsdale, NY, given to The Cleveland Museum of Art, Cleveland, OHDecember 6, 2021-The Cleveland Museum of Art, Cleveland, OH
