Did You Know?

Alluded to in the costumes of artist-entertainers like Beyoncé, Nefertiti’s bust symbolizes the celebration of the beauty of Blackness.

Description

The ancient Egyptian bust of Nefertiti is a symbol of beauty in the Black community. Re-interpreting the ancient bust in Nefertiti - Miles Davis (Gold), Erizku hopes to inspire Black audiences to seek self-determination through self-love. The sculpture also references the genius of Black music through its covering of disco-like tiles and its title, which refers to jazz musician Miles Davis’s 1968 Nefertiti album.
