Did You Know?

Some people believe that the name of the Assiniboin tribe comes from Ojibwa (Chippewa) and means “one who roasts using stones.”

Description

At their most prominent, the Assiniboin tribe occupied the northern Great Plains in what are now Canada and the United States. They were renowned as buffalo hunters. They cooked primarily using heated stones, dropping them into water to bring it to a boil for cooking meat.
