Did You Know?

A native of the San Gabriel Valley in Southern California, Aguilar had deep roots in California that she traced back through several generations of women in her family.

Description

A pioneering queer Latinx photographer, Aguilar often featured her own body as an intervention in artistic traditions that centered on the ideal, female nude, rendered and displayed for the male gaze. Aguilar’s nude landscape self-portraits are among her most powerful and iconic images, placing her body in dialogue with a variety of natural landscapes, from wooded to desert.
