A vertically oriented ink wash drawing on white paper features a centered abstract shape in shades of translucent gray. Split into four quadrants by a white cross, the upper two segments resemble rounded triangles while the bottom sections taper downward. Description

Sculptor Al Taylor’s drawings are imbued with his characteristic curiosity and sense of humor. This work is typical of the tension Taylor enjoyed between representations of the real world and his own self-referential formal system. The fluid lines and shapes and the works’ evocative title suggests that the drawing may refer to a human heart broken into quarters, though much is left open to interpretation.
