Description

Shooting from an upper story window, Ruth Orkin captures the diversity of a New York City crowd, presumably on Horatio Street given the work’s title. There are men in uniforms, work clothes, and business suits, while the women wear wool coats, some also sporting a brooch or a hat. People gaze in various directions, their attention drawn to different occurrences and sights. This group of strangers is brought together for just one moment, soon to be dispersed into the ebb and flow of the city streets.
