Did You Know?

The Copa Club in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, was a brothel.

Description

When Danny Lyon arrived in Haiti in 1983, he began by photographing at the Copa Club, a brothel, and other clubs on the same road. “I sat and drank and left a Leica on the table like a calling card,” he wrote. “The women who work in the clubs are mostly Dominicans living there for months at a time who then fly home to their families in the Dominican Republic.” He photographed them during their moments of leisure, bathing or resting or chatting among themselves.
