River Reflections

1930–60
Location: Not on view

Did You Know?

Along with Margaret Bourke-White and Arthur Gray, Lawrence Schreiber was one of the prime chroniclers of early and mid-century Cleveland through artistic photography.

Description

Schreiber shows the Cuyahoga River, one of his favorite subjects, as a steamy, misty highway tying Cleveland to world markets and thus making the city prosper. This image shows heaping piles of material awaiting transport, the cranes that help load it on and off ships, and on the left side, the warehouses where business was transacted.
