Did You Know?

Marie Watt considers blankets to be markers of one’s life, since they frame many of life’s moments from sleep, birth, and love to sickness and death.

Description

Seneca artist Marie Watt’s sculptural practice often incorporates blankets she has gathered from her community, which hold the memories and stories of those who owned them, as well as Iroquois creation stories. Blanket Stories Continuum (Book 1) consists of texts comprising the poignant stories she gathered from community members who donated blankets to her projects. Watt composed the texts in a crossed pattern to mimic the weave of a blanket.
