A horizontally oriented gelatin silver print depicts six children. On our left, a girl with dark skin and braided hair holds a toy stethoscope to another girl with light skin lying on a table. Behind the table, a boy with dark skin also uses a stethoscope. In the foreground, a girl with light skin faces us. Behind her, two children with light skin peer forward. Shelves with toys line the background.

Did You Know?

Early childhood education is critical because a child’s brain develops more than at any other time.

Description

Sage Sohier was commissioned by The George Gund Foundation to document early childhood education classes at pre-schools that were part of Invest in Children, Cuyahoga County’s public-private early childhood partnership. Her images, says the foundation, “offer a delightful glimpse into the daily lives of these preschoolers as they learn about the world around them and build the critical foundation needed for success in later life.”
