Did You Know?

Jasper Johns is a prolific printmaker and has created nearly 500 original prints.

Description

This print features one of Jasper Johns’s preferred images—the American flag—against a bold orange background. The artist became especially well-known for everyday imagery, including flags, targets, maps, and the alphabet. Rooted in his study of psychology and phenomenology, Johns depicted such everyday imagery in ways that drew attention to their representation. He described himself as drawn to “things the mind already knows [that give] me room to work on other levels.”
