When contemporary artist Takashi Murakami discovered that the Cleveland Museum of Art holds many historic works by artists who have long inspired him, he decided to create a series of “homages,” by recreating new iterations of the original artworks. Surya, the Sun God (2025) is one of those works. In particular it celebrates the exchanges between Japan and India as reflected in art and popular culture alike.- Takashi Murakami: Stepping on the Tail of a Rainbow.
