Did You Know?

Luis González Palma is mestizo—a mix of European and Indigenous heritage—and usually depicts Indigenous or mestizofaces.

Description

For Luis González Palma, the portraits he creates are, in a way, also self-portraits. To reflect the mestizoor Indigenous heritage of his sitters, he paints the black-and-white prints with a diluted sepia lithographic ink which yields a rich brown, but leaves the eyes untouched, drawing attention to their powerful gaze. The close cropping and plain backgrounds of his portraits remove the sitters from any specific time or place. This girl could be a mythological figure or goddess.
