Description

The “Three Godfathers” in the title comes from the poster in the background advertising a John Ford film that sets the Biblical story of the Three Wise Men in the American West. Louis Faurer used words found in the urban environment for his own purposes and had a quirky sense of humor; he also could have been referring to the Mafia presence in New York in the 1940s and the tough, streetwise look of the three men at the right. Faurer’s ironic scenes captured surreptitiously on the city streets were quite different from the images that earned him a living, which included fashion photography for major magazines.
