Jane Alexander

Chief Digital Information Officer

Jane Alexander is the Chief Digital Information Officer for the Cleveland Museum of Art (CMA), where she leads the museum’s digital vision across interactive experiences, application development, media services, technology, support services, and cybersecurity. Since joining the museum in 2010, she has overseen the creation of transformative, iterative digital projects that advance the CMA’s mission and expand global access to its collection.

Jane led the launch of Gallery One in 2012, which evolved into the internationally recognized ArtLens Gallery. This pioneering platform blends immersion, learning, inclusivity, and play and remains one of the most influential interactive museum experiences in the world. She also spearheaded the CMA’s groundbreaking open access initiative, a full website redevelopment, and multiple AI-driven tools and dashboards that make the museum’s 98.5% digitized collection widely accessible and that provide real-time insights into how audiences engage with art.

She continues to advance in-gallery innovation through major initiatives, such as Revealing Krishna, the museum’s first mixed-reality scholarly exhibition, and the upcoming reimagining of ArtLens, which integrates AI, haptic, and sensory interaction with inclusive design practices and international partnerships.

Jane’s leadership in digital transformation has earned numerous project and individual recognitions, including The Power 10 of the Blooloop 50 Museum Influencers (opens in a new tab), the Cleveland 500 leadership award, and multiple Team of the Year honors for her division’s work advancing the museum’s technology strategy.

Before joining the CMA, Jane developed Columbia University’s first distance education program and led major technology and design initiatives, including serving as the virtual CIO for the Great Lakes Science Center and as technology director and design consultant for Frank Gehry’s Peter B. Lewis Building at Case Western Reserve University. She holds a BA in architecture and a BS/MS in applied mathematics from Columbia University.
