Description

Shunsho was a well-known painter and printmaker in Edo who dominated the actor print field in his time.
A vertically oriented woodblock print depicts Ichikawa Danjuro V, a man with light skin tone, standing as a traveler. Looking back over his shoulder, he wears tan striped robes and a checkered waistcloth. A white mask hangs over his shoulder, and a sword with a paper bundle is tucked into his belt. Tall irises grow on either side of him, and Japanese calligraphy marks the top right corner.
