Description

Ichikawa Danjuro V was a talented onnagata (female impersonator) and writer.
A vertically oriented woodblock print depicts Ichikawa Danjuro V with a light skin tone. Standing centrally, he wears a reddish-brown robe with nested-square patterns over a dark breastplate and tan trousers. Tucking two swords into his belt, he holds a large white triangular fan. A gnarled pine tree stands on our right, and Japanese calligraphy appears in the lower right corner.
