A horizontally oriented oil painting depicts a dark cormorant swimming through muted teal and gray-cast water, chasing a small fish. Above the surface, two more birds rest in the upper left before a pale background where light filters through vertical columns. A bed of pale pebbles lines the bottom. The entire scene, rendered with visible brushstrokes, is enclosed by a dark, patterned border.
