Description

This print was published in Le Charivari (November 24, 1839) as plate 11 from the series Parisian Emotions.
A vertically oriented black-inked print depicts two light-skinned men on a dark, cobblestone street. On our left, a man with a prominent nose and top hat brandishes a wooden club. Facing him, the second man stands with hands in his dark coat pockets, appearing startled beneath his own top hat. Sharp shadows contrast against the wall behind them. Inscribed below are the words, "Quelle heure est-il, s'il vous plaît ?........"
