Description

This print (with title and captions added) was published in Le Charivari (October 12, 1844) as plate 8 from the series The Philanthropists of the Day.
A vertically oriented lithograph in black ink depicts seven men with light skin tones at a dining table. Centrally, a standing man leads five others in a toast, while a man to our right leans precariously back. Beneath the table, a man lies on the floor beside an overturned chair. Gestural sketches of columns form the background behind the white tablecloth, and the initials "h.D." appear in the bottom-left corner.
