Description

In this bucolic scene, a shepherd plays a tenor flute in hopes that his melody will seduce a shy shepherdess.
A vertically oriented print in black ink depicts a pastoral scene within a stone ruin. Centered on a ledge, a man in a wide-brimmed hat plays a flute. To his right, a woman stands with a spindle. In the foreground, a large horned bull and several sheep rest near a standing dog at the far right. Fine hatching defines shadows throughout, while the signature "Berchem f. 1652" is inscribed in the lower right.
