Description

This print portrays Christ—with the twelve apostles—miraculously healing a group of lepers encountered on his way to Jerusalem. Andrea Andreani who, after 1599, acquired a number of the earlier blocks of artists like Vicentino and Ugo de Carpi. He published these as his own, reworking them in some cases and adding his initials, an in the CMA example.
A horizontal woodcut in two shades of gray and black depicts Christ, a man with a light skin tone, standing on our right. He extends an arm toward kneeling people with light skin tones on our left. A burst of light surrounds his head as other figures with light skin tones stand behind him. Buildings with arches fill the background. An inscription at our bottom right reads "Alin mantova 1608".
