Did You Know?

The sitter of this portrait, Juliette Dodu (1850–1909), was a heroine of the Franco-Prussian War and the half-sister of Redon's wife.
A vertically oriented lithograph on beige paper depicts the side profile of a woman's head facing our left. Positioned slightly off-center, the subject has light skin and dark hair swept upward in loose lines. Soft, grainy shading defines her open eye and closed lips. The number 1904 appears to the right of the head. Hand-written text and the signature "odilon redon" are featured at the bottom of the composition.
