Description

The text includes verses from the Chapter 39 of the Qur’an, "Surah al-Zumar." The Arabic text is written in Rayhani script, one of the six official scripts of Perso-Arabic calligraphy, and ornamented with red, blue, and gold rosettes.
A vertically oriented, cream-colored page features a central rectangle of eleven lines of black calligraphic script. A thin border of gold and black lines frames the text. Interspersed among the characters and lining the left margin are small, circular gold and red floral medallions. The calligraphy is characterized by elegant, elongated strokes. The aged paper exhibits frayed edges and light brown stains in the wide margins.
