Description

Printed ornamental columns were probably colored and used for interior decorations. The printed panels may have also served artists and craftsmen creating similar patterns in other materials, including wood, stone, or metal.
A vertically oriented engraving in black ink depicts a symmetrical stack of decorative motifs. At the top, a winged child stands among flowering vines. Below, ornate urns, an animal skull, and coiled snakes are layered amidst dense foliage. In the lower portion, three children surround an elaborate base; the two on the left and right blow long horns. Fine black lines create complex shading throughout the cream-colored composition.
