A vertical black crayon drawing on tan paper depicts the head of a child, Emil Gauguin, with light skin. Facing forward with eyes cast downward, the child has dark, curly hair and features defined by grainy, atmospheric shading. Loose, sketchy lines suggest a collar. Small dark flecks are scattered across the aged, textured paper, which has uneven edges. More curls cluster on our right.
