Did You Know?

In nim qalam drawings, literally "half pen" in Persian, most of the composition is done with monochrome washes, with only a few areas brightly colored or embellished with gold.
A vertically oriented paper painting in gum tempera and ink depicts Akbar mounting a brown horse in the center. He wears a patterned tunic and yellow boots. Deer and white cows surround them in a hilly landscape of muted browns. To our right, men with light skin watch from behind rocks. A fort appears in the upper left, while Persian script marks the top right corner.
