Description

The image of a horse emerging from a gourd in the upper-right corner alludes to the story of the Daoist immortal Chokaro. It was a popular subject of otsu-e folk paintings.
A vertically oriented color woodblock print depicts a woman with light skin tone descending diagonal wooden stairs. She wears layered, intricately patterned robes in blue, red, and brown, clutching dark sandals. On our left, a blue panel features a large white shape. To our right, Japanese calligraphy and an illustration of a horse atop a yellow gourd sit against a neutral background. The woman leans forward, looking toward our right.
