Description

Here, Mount Fuji is seen across the fields known as Nakahara, just off the T kaid Road (the principal route along the eastern coast between Edo and Kyoto). In the foreground is the thatched roof of a shrine and a stone statue on the bank of the stream.
A horizontally oriented print in muted colors depicts travelers with light skin tones traversing a path and wooden bridge. In the foreground, figures carry baskets on shoulder poles or heavy packs, while a person fishes beneath the bridge. Beyond a body of water, the massive, snow-capped Mount Fuji rises toward dark, stylized clouds. Japanese calligraphy is inscribed within a vertical rectangle and columns along the upper right edge.
