Description

In this lithograph of his sister, Marie, at work, Vuillard contrasts the various textures of the textiles. Light seems to dissolve the gauzy curtains and Marie’s ruffled bodice, while the bolts of fabric to her right are solid and flattened.
A vertically oriented color lithograph depicts a figure with light skin tone from behind, hunched over a billowing mass of blue-speckled, textured fabric. To the left, a mustard-yellow chair frame stands in the foreground. A climbing vine of blue and yellow flowers borders the right edge. Delicate blue lines suggest a window in the background. On the cream paper's lower right, a blue cursive signature reads "E Vuillard."
