Description

This small winged altarpiece, called a triptych, was undoubtedly made for private use. The donor and his wife are shown in the lower central scene kneeling before the Virgin, her mother Saint Anne, and the Christ child. Above is the Epiphany with the Three Kings presenting gifts to a tightly swaddled Christ.
A vertically oriented tempera and gold painting on wood depicts four saints with light skin tones in two registers within a patterned gold frame. Above, St. Christopher carries the Christ child on our left, while St. Erasmus stands on our right in a red cloak and mitre. Below, St. Barbara wears blue near a tower on our left; a second female saint with a veil stands on our right in pink.
