Description

Shifts in style and taste often result in changes to original architectural details. Rousseau painted these doors with imitation dark wood grain. Another craftsman later scraped off the dark color surrounding the classical designs.
A vertically oriented oil painting on wood depicts four decorative panels in muted cream and gold tones. In the top section, a light-skinned figure emerges from golden scrolling vines. Below, the largest panel shows a seated light-skinned woman holding a rod beside a child, positioned above a green banner and a winged figure. A third panel features golden scrollwork, while the bottom section contains an ornate urn surrounded by foliage.
