Description

Although this sketch is similar to drawings by Boucher, a talented pupil or another artist striving to emulate Boucher probably made it.
A horizontally oriented black chalk drawing on blue paper is centered on a reclining nude woman, Venus, looking up and right. Thick fabric drapes over her legs and curls around a winged child, Cupid, to our right. Both have light skin tones. White chalk highlights contour their bodies against dark shadows. Thin brown ink lines frame the scene, while expressive chalk strokes capture movement within the billowing, cloud-like drapery.
