Description

According to ancient legend, when Alexander the Great (356–323 BC) came into the presence of the high priest of Jerusalem, he was so awestruck by the priest's piety that he approached the holy man on his knees.
A vertically oriented print in black ink depicts a bearded man in layered robes and a tall, pointed hat standing on our right. He gestures toward a soldier in plumed armor kneeling on our left. To our left, a circular domed building with many columns rises. In the background, mounted figures gather before rolling hills and a clouded sky.
