Description

This print was published in Le Charivari (December 7, 1855) as plate 252 from the series News of the Day.
A monochromatic, horizontally oriented lithograph is cluttered with objects and figures with light skin tones. In a shop, three women and a child to our left recoil with wide eyes and open mouths. To our right, a bearded man sits behind a counter with arms crossed. A scale sits on the counter beside a sign reading 'JUGEMENT.' French text below reads 'Condamné pour avoir vendu du grès pilé au lieu de cassonade.'
