Description

This print was published in Le Charivari (September 23, 1858) as plate 557 from the series News of the Day.
A horizontally oriented lithograph depicts several people with light skin tones in sketchy, expressive lines. On the left, a man in an apron and cap lunges right, thrusting a long baker's peel at a storefront window. Beside him, a boy carries a long loaf of bread. The window, labeled "BOULANGERIE," shows tiered pastries behind a large crack. In the background, other figures throw round loaves through the air.
