Description

This print was published in Le Charivari (April 23, 1837) as plate 44 from the series Caricaturana.
A horizontally oriented hand-colored lithograph depicts several figures with light skin tones in a courtroom against tan paper. Centrally, Robert-Macaire wears a black robe with his mouth open, left arm raised, and right hand holding a paper. Behind a high desk sit two judges; one looks down while the other gazes upward. Spectators watch from the left and foreground. French text below the scene includes "Robert-Macaire avocat."
