Description

This print was published in Le Charivari (June 7, 1850) as plate 140 from the series News of the Day.
A vertically oriented lithograph depicts four caricatured men with oversized heads falling from a radiant sun inscribed "FEVRIER 1848." Their detached wings plummet amidst streaks of light. On the right, a figure with long, dark hair falls headfirst. Below, a silhouetted crowd lines the horizon and a large cone rests in the foreground. Captioned "Les nouveaux Icares," fine hatched lines create dramatic shadows and light throughout the print.
