Description

This print was published in Le Charivari (November 13, 1851) as plate 248 from the series News of the Day.
A vertically oriented lithograph in black ink depicts three men gathered on the left observing a figure in a canopied crib. On the far left, a man stands with arms crossed in striped trousers. A taller figure looms behind them, and a diminutive man with glasses stands on a footstool. The figure in the crib wears a cap inscribed "LOI DU 31 MAI." Sketchy lines and shading create depth throughout the composition.
