Description

Wedgwood's tricolor jasperware first became popular in the 1770s during a period of fascination with neoclassical decoration. This vase was probably made around 1850 during the period when this type of decoration was revived. The relief medallions depict two versions of the Greek god Apollo, the god of music, next to his harp or lyre.
A tri-colored jasperware urn features a matte green body decorated with white relief decoration. Two curved white handles connect a light blue neck to the rounded shoulder. A central oval medallion depicts a white figure holding a lyre, flanked by draped floral garlands. An upper frieze displays small panels of animals and figures. The vessel tapers to a blue pedestal foot ringed with white leaves. White geometric patterns repeat around the lip and base.
