Description

Although best known for Les Roses, perhaps Redouté’s most beautiful work is Les Liliacées, which is devoted to the lily family—plants that grow from bulbs, corms, or tubers.
A botanical engraving depicts a plant rising from a large green bulb with a tan neck and thin roots. Long, flat leaves arch gracefully to the sides. A central stalk bears small white star-shaped flowers and green buds, while a severed stem stands nearby. Cursive script identifies the specimen as "Ornithogalum Longibracteatum." The hand-colored study captures the plant's elegant, arching form and the delicate transition from bulb to blossom.
