Description

Soga No Goro was the hero of a play dealing with the revenge of the Soga brothers upon the slayer of their father.
A vertical woodblock print depicts Ichikawa Raizo as Soga No Goro, a man with light skin tone in a low crouch. He raises a wooden stand overhead, his brow furrowed. He wears a pink and gold robe over wide purple trousers patterned with butterflies. Behind him, horizontal bands feature geometric patterns and red branch motifs. Red fragments lie on the ground, and Japanese calligraphy is to our left.
