Description

Domenico Beccafumi was a Mannerist painter and sculptor who completed several religious and civic commissions in his home town of Siena. An experimental printmaker, Beccafumi made a chiaroscuro print, mixing engraving and woodcut on the same sheet. This print is a rare impression of the engraved plate alone.
A horizontally oriented print in black ink depicts three nude men with light skin tones. On our left, a muscular man lies with his back to us, holding a round object. To our right, an older bearded man sits facing us with a cloth draped over his head. Behind him, another man leans over a rectangular tablet. Fine hatched lines define their muscular bodies against a backdrop of hills and a tree.
