Did You Know?

This is among the first printed landscape prints made from a low viewpoint, as if replicating the experience of walking along a rural path.
A horizontally oriented etching in black ink on aged paper depicts a rural scene. In the lower foreground, figures with staves stand amidst a grazing flock of sheep. A large, thatched barn dominates the center, while a brick house with stepped gables rises beyond a wooden fence to the right. Fine cross-hatch shading defines the structures. Tall, spindly trees and silhouetted birds are scattered across the landscape under a sky of swirling clouds.
