A vertically oriented softground etching in black ink depicts a child's head and shoulders, facing three-quarters right. Thick, grainy streaks render shoulder-length hair, while clustered dabs of shadow pool heavily beneath the chin. The child's eyes cast downward against a pale face. Frenetic, sketchy hatching fills the upper-left background. Wide margins surround the central plate mark, which features numbered inscriptions in the lower-left corner.
