Did You Know?

Mei Qing produced a surge of new paintings after his 1690 tour of Huangshan’s breathtaking peaks.
A horizontal painting in ink and color on beige paper depicts a landscape where a towering cliff on the left features a jagged ledge with a small hut. Below, two figures sit in a pavilion nestled among skeletal trees. Faint blue and green mountains rise in the distance against a pale void. Vertical columns of Chinese calligraphy and red seals occupy the upper right; another red seal marks the lower left corner.
