Did You Know?

Mei Qing’s visits to Huangshan were in the spring and summer, so this wintry scene was a product of his imagination.
A horizontal painting depicts jagged mountain peaks rising through a misty background in muted grays and tans. Clusters of trees with dark, dotted foliage stand near a small hut in the foreground. A seated figure is portrayed inside the hut through brief brushstrokes. Columns of Chinese calligraphy and red seals occupy the right, while additional seals sit on the bottom left. Hazy washes create a rugged, atmospheric mountain scene.
